The BMW alarm will:
a. Make noise when the interior is compromised
b. Make noise if the car is being towed

Neither of these are particularly good theft deterrents, esp. if you consider the last time you paid attention when a car alarm went off.

The best anti-theft device is already built into your car -- the driveaway protection using coded keys. The car cannot be started without a coded key.

Your best bet is to get the CD changer, and have the dealer program your car to have the red blinking "alarm" light work. Do some searching on bmwnation.com ... basically the dealer just activates the blinking "clown nose" so it looks like you have an alarm.
