The Xenon system initially levels at startup in response to the amount of weight in the car (more/less passengers or cargo).

However, they also will counteract any forward/backwards shifting of the car in motion. This is to keep the ultra-bright beam from hitting oncoming traffic while driving.

Don't believe me? Get in your E46 and point it down a straight road with a point of reference. Stomp on the gas...stomp on the brakes...watch the light pattern on the road or on nearby objects. It will change very little even though the car body is squatting and diving. This is by design.

Kinda cool, eh?
