to make it lighter (more assist) and immediately took hits in the automotive press and places like bimmer.org for the change. Many complained that the steering was now too light, compromised road feel and moved BMW away from the "ultimate driving machine" that it is supposed to be. BMW changed the steering again to correct the problem part way through 2001 and also offered a retrofit program to some customers who had the lighter steering and who had complained.
