What is odd about waiting until after November is that the beginning of the year is going to be when the car will be the hottest and the easiest to resell if the person special orders it cancels. I cannot imagine that there is any "disadvantage" to the sunshade that is going to make the car more difficult to sell to someone else. If someone special ordered green paint with red leatherette seats, that would be different. The rear sunshade is actually not a US option. There are many options which are available in Europe which aren't generally available in the US. But, if you are able to find the option codes for these options, and if you have a cooperative dealer, and if BMW USA agrees, you can order one of these options. If you do so, it is considered a "special order." Many dealers don't want to do special orders because they're afraid of being stuck with an oddball car that they can't sell if you walk away from the deal. There are certain times of the year when BMW will flat out refuse special orders-- usually at the beginning of a new model year. The blackout period from now until November for special orders was posted on this board by Jon Shafer, a very reputable sales manager from California. I can guarantee that no matter how much you kick and scream, nobody will allow you to order the car with a rear sunshade until november. Incidentally, Jon does lots of rear sunshade orders, so you might give him a call-- he's with a dealer called Cutter Motors. Now, many of us think its strange, and just plain stupid of BMW USA to not allow us to easily order options the way the Europeans do. They build the cars in the same factory, so its not like it makes their jobs any more difficult there. In fact, I took a factory tour of the Munich plant, and they bragged about how every BMW can be custom ordered to your exact specs--and that no request is impossible. There have been many theories floated, but I still don't get it myself.
