What type of wheel and width are you running with your 235/40 18's. I am thinking about this set up myself but have mixed answers from several wheel companies about rubbing, etc. any info would be greatly appreciated.
...you won't gain any sort of benefit from going to that size.

It won't look noticeably different, give you any better handling, or anything else. If you can get a set of 235/45s a lot cheaper than 225/45s, then that's a reasonable excuse.

The person who said 235/40s are a better match is WRONG. 235/45 is 0.35in taller in diameter than stock, but 235/40 is 0.57in shorter. See http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html for yourself. It will also show % the speedo will be off.

FWIW, I'm running 235/40/18 all the way around, which is larger than even 235/45/17s, and have no problems.
