I work with a large number of students who came with their families to this country fleeing the Taliban and the war with USSR. They are wonderful people and now even their neighbors are doing all kinds of stupid things from burning down their pizza restaurants to punching out the kids. These kids and their families are wonderful people and their lives are classic American stories of flight from religious persecution to a new land where they learn the language and work hard to get their kids ahead. I cannot believe that we have not learned anything from the last 100, hell, from the last 10 years. Leave my students alone please, it is not fair for them, after all they went through to get here, to have them coming to me in tears, not sleeping at night out of fear.

Our local cops put it best. "There are stupid people in the world, and some of them have children."
