At approx. 2:00 PM today, when I was just driving along in my 2001 330I, smoke suddenly started coming out from the hood. I glanced at my guages to see if everything was ok, and it was. However, I then stopped the car and opened the hood. There it was, a fire had started in the fan (radiator). Luckily I had some water handy, and it was enough to put out the flame.
I do not know the extent of the damage, but the fan is now all melted. to add to the situation, I am 300 miles from Home. I called BMW, and they will not have a tow truck ready until the morning, and since I have to be present when that happens, I am stuck here in Atlanta, and wll have to miss work tomorrow.
Good thing is BMW said they will cover up to $750 of expenses we incur while down here, so you better believe we are milking them for all we can.....actually, I get to stay at a real nice hotel and food is free so it is not bad......but now I have felt a little disappointed with my car. Three months old, 5000 miles..something real bad could have happened to the car if I did not have that water handy.
ANYWAy, SORRY for the long post, but in cases like this, what will BMW do for me? How can I be sure this will not happen again? I dunno about you guys, but after seeing the bimmer on fire, I will not feel confident about taking it anywhere anymore. What are my options? BTW, the car is leased.
