: Bottom line question is this: Am I crazy to give up the stick because I find shifting in traffic to be very unpleasant?

: Thanks for your input.

Dave,

I've spoken to you about this a little. In a perfect world, manual would be my choice. However, just yesterday I was driving back to LA from Santa Barabara and I hated to have to shift in stop 'n go traffic. The 6sp 540 is the most fun to drive, hands down. I really think though that the steptronic falls into a happy median. I also think that you cannot drive it as aggressively as a manual, but on those days when you're moving at 5MPH in dead traffic, you will certainly appreciate it. If traffic burdens you that much...go steptronic. I drove a friends's 840 with step and it was surprisingly fun, though I found up/down shifts non-eventful. Otherwise, do what I did, bite your tongue and hope you can beat the traffic every day, both ways (boy was I dreaming with that one). But, weekends will quickly remind you why you went stick.
