I still say the EDC switch is the easiest way to tell the difference. All of the other parts can be added after the fact but not the adjustable suspension (at least not at great expense). Also look for special Boge shocks with 2 hydraulic lines attached. You should be able to see these by looking through the 5-spoke wheel.
The ground effects package on the Sport model is also different from the regular 540i/6spd. Look for brake cooling ducts below the foglights and lower side & rear sills. This can be faked if the seller spent $2500 on the ///M-body pkg.
Finally, the VIN on the Sport models ends in 65,0XX-65,2XX because they were produced quite late in the model year.
