: I recently got a 528i and now have 1500 miles on it.
: Several people have told me that I should change the oil after the break in period of 1200 miles. My service advisor told me to wait 3000-3500 miles.

: What are your recommendations?

: Thank you

I, too, have a 528i. After talking with a number of people, including Ray Schroth, one of the senior technical people BMW NA, I came away with the impression that there is no need to change the oil any sooner than when indicated by the service light system. The car comes from the factory with a synthetic oil, and given the cleanliness of present-day engines, as well as the additive systems of modern synthetic oils, changer the oil more often is unnecessary and antiquated.
Just for fun, I also sent an E-mail to Aral, the German oil company. They replied -- and they are in the business of selling oil -- that 15,000 km changes are appropriate, and that changing oil more often -- i.e., every 7500 km -- would gain nothing in terms of engine life.
