: Does anyone know if it is easy to install the BMW cell phone system on a 1998 528i. I am hearing quotes of $1,000 by cell phone dealers for the equipment and installation. I'm assuming most of the technology is already installed in the car by the appearance of the controls on the radio and steering wheel. It seems all you would need is the main cell phone unit installed in the trunk. Also does any know of any company selling the equipment aftermarket since the equipment is made by Motorola.

: Thanks for the help!

If you want a phone to work with the steering wheel, MID, and audio system, then you will have to go with a BMW phone. Ther is wiring there, but the units all have to work together, and that is controlled by digital messages between them over the car's bus system - It's all software controlled and the software is BMW's code.

So if you want an integrated unit - you are stuck with a BMW unit - but hey - that's not a bad system - just a bit too pricy.
