Bill & 5er folks,
Glad to hear that you & son's alright.
Don't ANY of you "pull a Marco", it ain't fun at all.
I'm still under physical treatment, although neck is felling lot better. If by any ways you and son feel the neck/back/shoulder is not right (within 2 weeks), you gotta get help. You'll seem fine at first, but the discomfort "may" hit later.
Anyhow, I am still not clear as WHAT to do when experiencing a "tail-spin" again. Should I just accelerate and ride it through? I hit the brake the first time so I knew that was duhhhh.
: I "pulled a Marco" last weekend. I took my '95 540i six speed to Road Atlanta for their Track Days drivers school. I ran in intermediate 'A' group, along with two Vipers, several 911's, a few M3's, Vettes, two NSX's, and some Mustangs and a Lotus. First three 30 minute sessions were fine, and I could tell I was making improvement in selecting the line, braking points, etc. It rained heavily before our fourth session, and when we went out the track was drying but still had some wet areas. First two laps were O.K., with one slight tail wiggle coming out of turn six. On the third lap I exited turn 6 and accelerated towards the braking point for 7, when the rear end came out BIG TIME! I caught it and straightened out, but by then I was on the grass to the right of the course, and it was very wet, so I slid on into the concrete wall, hitting it broadside with the right side of my car. My son was with me, and although we hit pretty hard, he was not hurt at all, and we exited the car with both front doors opening and shutting as usual. The windows rolled up fine too, but the car was undriveable because of right front suspension damage. I had the car carried home(150 mile trip) to a body shop I trust, and the estimate is between $4000-6,000. Insurance has already agreed to pay, but I'll be without my car for close to two months. Good news is we're both all right, and you already know the bad news by now. And I received my short shifter kit from Ben Liaw today to top it all off!
