: Went to the dealer yesterday to order the new 99 528i. I had the impression that the new 99 sport pakage can be ordered speparately without the leather. Well, guess what, the dealer says no. He said that you can now order the wood trim with the sport but not without leather.
What they are doing is grouping a bunch of "options" and marketing it as "the sport package" - probably good value if you really want all those things. If not, go back and ask to speak to the Sales Manager. Tell him/her you want to order via the BMW "Individual" program so that you can get the sports options you want, and that you "do not want leather".
There is a special charge for special orders, but that should be less because you will not be paying for leather. If they say they do not know about the individual program try other dealers, or send a letter directly to BMW NA.
Make sure they get your message that you, "the customer", do not want to buy a car that has been "prepackaged" by some marketing type. You may be successful, maybe not - nothing ventured, nothing gained.
