You guys are better than I am. I couldn't wait. I went and picked up my 98 540i a week ago. I know I'm missin some cool stuff compared to this years model, but I had to have my new toy.
The 98 540i is the bomb!!!! I'm sure you will be exctatic with the 99! I can not think of owning another car. Very smooth and comfortable and boy can this car get up and go.
I commend you on getting more umph with the 99. I will tell you this, thanks to those governing features like traction control and skid control you will be protected from the power of this car!! I went a little nuts around a turn yesterday dropping into 2nd gear and popped the clutch way to aggresively coming out of the turn and instead of finding my tail banging out the car cut the power to the back wheels and I bounced around the very tight turn at an amazing clip. I was throughly amazed and thankful for the little bit of help of controlling the car.
I took the ASC off and have been able to swing the back end around once. It's pretty tough to do with good tires.
I went for actic silver, BMW 5 spoke alloy rims that look amazing I might add with the metallic paint. Heated seats, premium sound(heard mixed reviews about it, but I like it). They are putting the standard BMW aero kit, tinting, and radar(give yourself a fighting chance) this weekend. They let me have the car for a week cause I was so damn impatient. I highly recommend competition sports in Greenich, CT. They have been really great.
Have fun!!! I guarentee you will.
: : Congrats on the decision - I also have a 540 i 6 on order in Biarritz Blue. It's also supposed to arrive in Oct/Nov. There are some changes over the 98's. Have you seen a detailed spec. yet ????
: Haven't personally seen a detailed spec sheet, but several 5er board postings spelled things out pretty well. You should be able to find them in the archives, but let me know if you can't.
: Also, here's a pretty good summary:
: high performance rear axle,
: new differential gear ratio
: style 32 17" wheels,
: m sport steering wheel.
: The engine should remain exactly the same.
: Xenon lights will be available and the in dash cd changer will not.
: Good luck waiting without climbing the walls.
