The alarm on my 70-year old mother's 94-540ia acts up on occasion. The remote control is the option where the key has a special electronic code and pushbuttons(she has two of these) and you point it at the rear view mirror, where the remote's antenna is located. It locks/unlocks the doors, opens the sliding roof, sets/turns off the alarm, etc.

Once and awhile the keys won't turn off the alarm or unlock the car. Then you must unlock the car manually which sets off the alarm. Of course, the car won't start. Usually after a couple cycles of this (in a row) the car will behave for a couple of months before it happens again.

Last week she left the parking lights on and the battery ran down. When jumped the alarm went off and wouldn't respond to the key transmitter. What a mess.

What do you'all think is going on with the remote system? Any similar experiences?
