: There is no "coin tray" to replace the ashtray on the E39, but there is a small replacement box. From the small parts diagram I saw it is about the same size as the ashtray box - but without the little "butt out" unit for a cigarette.
: Part number is 51 16 8 159 695.
: BUT (no pun intended) - there is an easy alternative.
: Lift out your current ash tray box and you will notice that there is a chrome ring around the top. Bend back the holding tabs and that ring comes off, and the cigarette part comes with it.
: This makes you ashtray into a plain plastic box - slightly bigger than before.
: Still not great - but about the best you can do with the current design of that ashtray unit.
: If you are using it for things like loose change you may want to line it with some felt to keep things quiet.
