: I am going to order a 99 540 on Monday, but I really have hard time deciding with transmission to get, please help!

If you like to drive, the only way to go is the 6 speed. If the car is just to impress your friends, get a Caddy.

The E39 is "soft" enough when compared to the old E34 that if it wasn't for the manual transmission, I wouldn't even consider it.

I've lived in Florida for the last nine years but prior to that did 14 years commuting on the Los Angeles freeway and 2 years on the N. J. State Parkway.

Even bumper to bumper, a good manual with a big engine is easy. Put it in 1st or 2nd and lug it up and down controlling by the gas pedal. Unless you come to a dead stop, I think its even easier than an automatic in heavy traffic. Besides, what else is there to do in a moving car except to drive?
