Same oily pocket here, I've had two dealers look at my 95 525 with the same exact problem, neither could get it to repeat but I do about every 20th try. I'm wondering if getting a new key would help ? There definently is binding somewhere in the ignition that cannot be cured via lubricant. Wonder if this is a big problem or not with others ?

: Thanks, I tried and doesn't seem to help. Only key (and my pocket) is oily now.

: : Sounds like a job for a shot of WD40!!!!
: : Put the key in a smidgeon and just shoot up next to the key. Then work the key in and out a couple of times.
