You wanta to know pain. I was at the Ford dealership yesterday pricing a pickup truck and couldn't turn off the #$#$@ alarm. Talk about embarrassment. After getting in the manual method, and having all the salesmen gathering around the my car as the alarm goes off as I'm trying to get the BMW roadside service number, I'm ready to get an aftermarket alarm. Roadside had me try to resync the remote, but after talking to them, I went out to the car and it finally worked. It doesn't follow any patterns what so ever. Sometimes take a minute or so of pressing the unlock button and sometimes its more, like this time, I wasn't sure if it was ever shutting off. Maybe interference, who knows.

Anyone experience with replacing the old alarm with an aftermarket? Can you remove the key and insert it into one of the new BMW lighted key holders like my 98 M3?
