: : : first of all LOL...i think you mean recent purchase...i was wondering if it was a typo or if you really changed you mind about the 540
: : : :I recently purchased a 1995 540i with the Motorsport package. Wow, what a fantastic car!
: : : : Can anyone tell me how many of these M packages
: : : : made available in the US?
: : : let me just check that you have the "throwing star" rims that was on the 91-93 M5 right??? (not that somebody couldn'thave put them on afterward though)...i believe they made 200 (or was it 600) 1995 540i Sport edition as a last hurrah for the E34 (i am sure Viken B will correct me if i am wrong)
: : : Bruce
: : Bruce,
: : If I remember well, it was more like 200, certainly not 600. They were late '95 models and looked exactly like the last US 1993 M5. They were offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic.
: Here are some Car & Driver specs for a real 540i Sport.
: -DOHC 282 bhp 3982 cc 32 Valve V-8
: -Suspension has EDC(electronic damper control)
: -17" 235/45-17 Pilot's with M System II wheels
: same as on a 93 M5 & up.
: -Larger front brake rotors
: -M-Tech body kit from an M5
: -0-60 mph 5.8 secs, 91 M5 did it in 5.6 secs.
: -Special M-sport racing mirrors
: -The package was $8360 over a standard 6 spd 540i.
: -A few M badges here and there.
Any idea how the EDC on the E34 540i Sport compares to EDC on the current E39 540i? That is, would it be worth getting, if possible?
(Yes, this is actually possible. The BMW '98 5-series brochures from Germany have EDC as an option, although it is not available with the M-Technic suspension.)
