there was an article in the US magazine Bimmer that showed how TC Kline put a US spec M3 engine into the 528 (not much work to switch it since it is a bored and stroked 2.8 engine)...i don't have the mag in front of me but can find it again if you want more info

it's called torque....Euro M3 engine has 258 ft pounds (US spec has 236), 540 has 310....more torque to get that heavy car moving faster
