I have a '97 540iA and have never had this gasoline smell problem. I suggest you request a meeting with the regional BMW NA Service Technician at your regular dealer immediately to discuss. If the service dept. is not agreeable to this, get yourself to another dealer as soon as possible. This situation should not be tolerated and in my opinion could be dangerious.

: I've had my car into the dealership a few times because of a strong gas smell which only seems to occur on hot days (above 80 degrees F). They said this was due to some filter but it was normal. For a sixty thousand dollar car (US), I find it hard to believe that this is "normal." Has anyone else had this problem?
