I am having the windshield of my E39 528 replaced next week. Well, the glass company asked if I wanted standard or premium glass. Oh, must be premium glass if given a choice. I'm surprised that there was a choice.

The reason that I'm having the replacement is that I put a zillion cobweb scratches in the glass while aggressively removing Rain X. I've never been satisfied with the cleaning action of the windshield wipers which prompted me to try Rain X. Unfortunately I didn't like the results and had to abrade it off according to the companie's reccomendation. Of course I tried new wiper blades before seeking solutions to the wet vision problem elsewhere. So now I'm going back to square 1 with new glass and hopefully things will improve.
