BMW's ae designed to be fairly closely ballanced front to rear. I do not knwo about the E34 - but it is nowhere near 65/35.

The E39 540 is as far as they dare go gromthe 50/50 goal. It is 52.5/47.5. The 528 is about 51/49 - or vent less.

And they still recommend a difference of 5 lbs between the front and rear - so it is not for weight. I think it is more to address under steer.
