Sir--Couple of these comments are on target, BMW cars are generally more sporting than others, but not all. Having owned and sold most of these types of cars for years, BMW owners are a bit more anal than some others, and there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. My beef, as anyone who reads my posts knows, is not in the build quality. I think it may even be superior to build quality of a few years ago. However, the BMW niggling quality problems are primarily caused by substantial decontenting in qualilty of the raw materials. Leathers, plastics and other materials are nowhere near as high quality as in years past. But, that's not a problem that is indiginous to BMW. MB and Porsche are also decontenting, as are VW and Audi. The illusion is that you're getting more for your money, when in fact you're getting lesser quality parts, particularly plastics, paint, and glass, than you would have expected in a German car 15 years ago. MB, Porsche and VW have done a better job of keeping appearances up, but they have flaws too. If you want a new car with no problems or flaws, buy a Camry. It has no character either. Gotta find the right balance for you. Good luck....
