I also think that lowering would be a great idea but sadly I dont have the money for that right now. If I do lower the car, what do you think of the Bilstein/Eibach combo? Anyone else who has tried this combo on their 528's? I would love to make my car a replica HM5 but that is just a dream. Is there a combo more competitively priced and similar in performance to the Bilstein/Eibach anyone can recommend, thanks.
: Put on the 18" wheel, let it settle down for a couple of days. Your friends will then..say: you gotta lower the car. Try it and you'll know. Here comes the BMW trucker dude.
: Lowering will make it look better and handle better too.
: One thing, you'll need to do re-alignent after the lowering. Becareful on the 18" wheels, don't overpump those low-profile tires; that's what I did at July to pop my tire on the freeway.
: : Marco,
: : I was thinking of upgrading the stock 16" wheels I currently have to 18" Hamaan Wheels (Like the ones the HM5 has ;)) Will they really look ugly since I dont have the sport package? I don't want my precious baby looking like a truck now.

: : : Actually, in my experience, the 18" with the "non-sport" suspension set-up, it's going to make
: : : the gap very visible; like it's a truck.
: : : However, with a lower suspension set-up with H&R spring it'll look mighty nice.
: : : Ride will not be comfortable, though.

: : : : Compared to the stock E39 528 shod with small 15" wheels, I would have thought that 18" wheels fill up the wheel well quite nicely.
: : : : What would I be gaining by going to 19" or 20"? Just looks? Would any disadvantages start kicking in at that point?

: : : : : 19" or 20" rims also fit on the new 5series. While 20's would be a extreme fit I'm sure that it could be made to work. Since you already have a set of tires and rims for winter why not go for the 19" set up? YOu can have larger tires and they will fill up the wheel well even better than the 18's.
