: Hello,

: I just today noticed that the passenger side airbag enclosure is loose enough to get my fingers into the SRS compartment. I have pressed on the enclosure to attempt to press it back in.

: Very strange, I don't have kids who would have pried at it...anyone else have this problem on their E39?

Well it depends what yo mean by loose.

That section of the dash is just a cover over the air bag module. When the bag goes off that entire dash section is thrown out of the way, and is held above the expanding bag by a teather - so the dash section will not strike you.

Actually it is quite easy to remove. Just get your fingernails in the crack at the rear and pull - it will pop out exposeing the interior of the dash where the air bag is mounted.

Do not work about setting the bag off - it is not connected to that section of the dash. Just don not play with the electrical connector to the bag unit.

I have removed mine several times (the dash section that is) in order to get at some internal dash items. Hte dash section just "pops" back in position when I thump it.

But if yours is not holding properly then see your dealer. Unless you have damaged it then they should make sure it fits and holds properly.

Cheers
