Here is my 2 cents on this subject. I'll probably get flamed for it... but here goes. I have a 99 540i six speed manual and a 99 Passat
V6 manual (wifey has Navigator). The 540 is the greatest car that I have ever owned. Problem is, it is so fast, that with the manual transmission, I cannot wring the car out with each gear because I will be at orbital velocity after 2nd gear! I love the sound of this motor and I love the control of the manual... but ultimately, it is a frustrating experience because of our lousy speed laws in this country (The ability to drive fast also depends greatly upon where you live, I guess). In some ways, my VW is more satisfying because I can run the car harder and run through the gears at higher revs at lower ultimate speeds. I don't know how I would feel in a 540iA... if this would change my feelings on this or not. But I would be very tempted to get the 528i sport manual in lieu of the awesome-power six speed. Given the choice of 528iA vs. 540iA then you have to go with the bigger motor I think.. as the 528 auto would be a doggy 8+ 0-60 mph...

: I am looking to purchase another BMW but the problem I am having is "WHICH ONE" to buy. Can anyone provide me with information about the 528 Sport. Why is it considered a Sport? What are the options? Is it really worth it or should I just purchase a base 540ia?
: Very confused, please help.
