Do you have to remove the entire door panel to get at the front door speakers (2 in door + 1 near A-pillar) too? I think the old E34 had removable grills.

: Don't forget taking off the rear doors to replace the tweeters as well! The rear deck only houses the midbass. Replacing the speakers in an E39 is definitely NOT a DIY project unless you're either extremely skilled or don't mind seriously butchering your car and tearing off panels. Find a reputable stereo shop in your area and pay the pros to do it... it'll cost you less than replacing the door panel you tore the fasteners off of.
