Uhmm, if the GS400 was truly "something better on the horizon" I wouldn't have traded it in. Surrounded by them? Yes, I am, and it feels GOOD not to see myself coming and going on the road constantly. As for one keeping up with me?
Not likely. First tight bend I went through the GS would be off into the weeds. :-D

The GS400 is a great VALUE. It's less expensive than a comparable BMW 540. But it'll never drive the same.

Sales figures? Hah. Nothing about the passion or driving experience. Who CARES how it's helped Lexus sales. Does the fact that it's a sales hit change the fact that it drives like a Camry?

Frankly, they can sell all they want. I'm happy for 'em. As far as people lining up to get one... go down to your dealer and try getting a 540i six speed... good luck :D
