Any problems installing the Glove box CD changer? (archive)

Hello all,

I have been following this board for months, since I decided to purchase a 2000 540i (6 speed, heated seats, mixed parallel spoke wheels). I am picking the car up on Saturday. I would like to install the new glove box CD changer, but the dealer said there are many problems because it is not prewired. The technicians are spending around 7 hours to install the changer because they have to wire the glove box to the trunk, back to the stereo system (basically ripping the car apart). Has anyone installed the changer successfully? If so, can you let me know how you did it, (or which dealer did it), what problems you had, and what I should watch out for?

I did look at Circle BMW, but they give instructions to install it yourself. I am incapable of installing something this complicated.

I know many people will think I should install a changer in the trunk, but only being able to choose from 6 CD's is not sufficient. Losing the Glove box is not an issue for me. Thank you for everyone's input.

Gary
