: : The driver's seat on my new 540i does not move rearward anywhere near as far as the front passenger's seat. Is this normal or is it the first and only defect I have found?

: That seems to be normal - at least mine are the same as yours.

Jim, I have a 97 540. When I recieved it I noticed the drivers seat did not go as far back as the passengers. When I raised the seat all the way up and forward I noticed a clip on the top of the track in the back. Others I spoke with on this board also were happy to find this out and removed the clip. It could be some cars are different. The clip was on the "inside track". I was glad to find the clip, because the seat was to close forward for me. Good luck. Take another look and compare the track on both seats. The clip is narrow and black.
