: One drawback I have found to BMW's computer system is that it appears to save all control settings (fan setting, Air cond on or off, etc.) upon going to sleep. If you park the car for less than 16 minutes, which I do every morning when droping my daughter off at day care, the settings revert to what they were the last time the car went to sleep. In my case, this was the previoue eveining. So I return to my car each morning after day care dropoff and my air cond is on again and the fan is at full blast. This is rather anoying, but I have not found any way around it.

: Anyone found a way to force the computer to save settings in memory / put the car to sleep sooner than 16 minutes?

First - I know of no way to put the car to sleep.

Second - there is something strange with your operation. In North America we get the "tropical" version of the IHKA system. The tropical program causes "some settings" to be reactivated after the car is restarted. The non tropical version apparently returns all settings to default, or off condition.

After your input I tested mine today.

The following items reverted to what I had them set to - as long as the awake indicator was still on.

- Vent choices
- Blower speed
- Defrost
- A/C
- Recirculate in All choices, including manual rec.
- Rear Window Defogger

After the car had gone to sleep the following were the "only items" that stayed the same as they were when I turned the car off.

- Vent choices
- Blower speed
- Defrost (overrides other choices)
- A/C
- Recirculate - "Auto" or "Off" (not manual)

So the manual recirculate and the rear defrost revert to the default positions after the car goes to sleep. The others retain their previous
setting regardless of time off.

If my car goes to sleep with the A/C on, and then I turn it off after next started, it does not come on again after a short turn off period like you say yours does.

Sounds like you want to have a chat with your service manager. Record carefully the circumstances so you can repeat it for them.

There is always a chance that other items may be a factor in this process (interio/exterior temperatures, other timing durations, etc.) but I don't think so.

Cheers
