There is nothing holding them in place other than their own tension on the track.

Look at the track - the part mounted to the floor.

On the part where the cogged teeth start you will see a flat piece of dark metal covering the first 2 inches of teeth. That is the stopper clip and it just presses down over the top of the track and the sides of it hold it in place. The seat movement stops with it bumps into that clip.
