Completely agree with Alex. I upgraded to 17" with SP9000s - the ride quality is good and they are infinitely better than the Conti's - although a step behind the Pole Postions in terms of performance. I have Dinan Stage 1 - medium setting - and Schnitzer sways (Schnitzer does the front and rear, not just the rear sway like Dinan - can't go wrong with Dinan or Schnitzer).
: Hey Allen:
: I have a '97 540iA with Conti tires. It rides a bit soft and I do not like the sway on turns.
: I have given it to BMW and they will be upgrading
: the tires/wheels to 17". I am putting the
: Dinan stage 2 suspension and it will be on the
: "soft" setting. If you would like, I'll let you know how it goes. I do not recommend that you just upgrade the tires/wheels. The stock suspension setting is calibrated for 16" rims (NOT 17"). I know it costs money, but if you go to 17" rims, you might as well do it right. If money is an issue, I suggest that you just get a true high performance 16" tire (e.g. Bridgestone Pole Position, or SP 9000s). Those Contis are SOFT like balloons. Because I live in NY City,
: I'll be using the 16" Contis/wheels for some sort of decent winter traction (for about 3-4 months). I know the high performance tires just
: won't work here in the winter.
: My 2 cents. Good Luck.

: I'll be upgrading the
: suspension also.y: I am driving a '99 528IA with the standard 16" wheels and Continental tires. I am considering getting a set of 17" wheels and tires. I have been told that the car will handle much better with the 17's, they look better and I can use the present 16's for snow tires.
: : I like the way the car rides now; a very nice compromise between handling and a smooth, tight ride. How will the 17" wheel change that?
: : Thanks in advance.
