: First off, congrats on the new sled and especially for getting it from John at Cutter. You will be blown away by the delivery experience. Top notch guys down there for sure!!!

: The a/d/s/ system sounds incredibly good and I'm pretty picky. Very natural, excellent staging, and crystal clear at all volumes. I did the install myself with info I got from folks on this board. That's what I'm going to put on my site so others will have a central place to get it from. It wasn't too hard, just time consuming because of my objectives.

: I spent about $1900 on equipment, wiring, and supplies:

: - P840 amp
: - 335is front speakers
: - A5i/m rear speakers
: - 310RS sub driver (q-logic box for now, custom box in design mode again)
: - remote sub volume, still not installed
: - 100' of hand twisted pair 18ga wiring. I did this myself.

: Right now I have it configured with 40w to each of the 4 corners and 2 channels bridged for my sub in mono. That leaves 2 unused, but I plan on pumping 4 bridged channels (120w to each coil on the sub) when I get the custom box done. The beauty of the P840 is you get 8 channels to mess with and you can reconfigure the system until you're happy with it. I plan on lots of tweeking now.

: The Q-Logic box in the trunk is OK, but has to be turned up pretty loud to hear it in the cabin. I plan on firing the sub through the ski-hatch in a sealed box. Should be much better since I won't have to push the sub so much to hear it.

: I'll post my URL when the site is ready. It won't be too pretty to begin with, but will get the info out for starters.

: : : I just completed an upgrade of my '99 528i's standard system and I can tell you the wiring for the DSP unit is going to be different. You'd be better off doing the a/d/s/ upgrade, or similar, to your 528i instead.

: : : I am going to get a site together to document my upgrade procedure within the next few weeks. Pictures are off to be developed now, all I have to do is find the time to do the content. I'll be sure to post the URL here when it's ready.

: : Jeff i know you are going to put this on the a site but could you please give a few details on the a/d/s/ system you had instaled. how much did it cost? where did you have it done? what kind of amplifiers are powering your new speakers?? is there any custom work that had to be done?

: : thank you jeff,, i am picking up my Y2K 540ia from cutter moter from john s, at the end of the month. i can not wait!!!!!!

: :
: : : : Ok, guys... My wife is getting a new 528iT with the DSP stereo -- and I am thinking of putting my non-DSP unit in her car and taking her DSP unit for my car (mine is a '99 528 too) Is this even worth pursuing? How much trouble would it be? What about the speakers -- are they differnet in each car?

: : : : TIA

So you just spliced into the wiring at your amp in the trunk and ran with it? Did you get wiring information from someone or just hunt for the right ones? I'm suprised you didn't blow off the door air bags while changing out the speakers in the doors... :) Can't wait to hear more about it... Thanks Chris...
