Sometimes if you push on the latch too hard it will break. this happened to my 97 528. Dealer replaced it under warrenty but shook his finger at me and said be careful next time.

: I think the actuator motor on my 97 528i died. The trunk won't latch shut, and squeezing the lid release doesn't result in the normal "click" sound. Locking/unlock with remote and key didn't clear it. Has anybody else lost the motor, or could it just be a fuse?
