: My 1999 528i developed an annoying, faint rattle near the driver's A-pillar when touring on holiday recently. I had been on some unsealed roads so the car has become quite dusty. When I washed the car, I found that the rubber seal on the door that meets the A-pillar (at or just below the level of the instruments) was dusty and had obviously been fretting on the A-pillar. Cleaning it fixed the problem. This seal isn't felted like the seals around the top of the door frame.

: Just thought I'd share this......cheers

All seals around the doors (including the new felt style) can cause creaking noises at times - even the small one around the door vent duct.

Seems the trick is to keep them all clean - whip them down with a towel every time you wash the car) and then treat with a rubber/vinyl cleaner every 3-4 months (or when you hear some creaking noise). Do not do too often as this seems to just cause more problems - the seals seem to be getter if they are dry and clean.

I use Vinylx from Lexol - but no nearly as often as I did when I first had the trouble with the old style seals. I had then start to creak last week - first time since the spring - so cleaned and treated all the seals again - voila quiet again!.
