I use the standard suction cups and no problem. I also can remove the unit without removal of the bracket.

I didn't moisten the suction cups. But, typically these should be moistened with "nose grease". Sorry, if that sounds gross, but that is the technical term. Rub your finger on the outside of the nose and then apply to the suction cup. Sorry, for the graphic nature of the description.

Alternatively, a light smear of petroleum jelly might work.
