I called my BMW service rep who said the Diehard battery was OK as long as it was vented and was exactly the right size. In the end, I bought an "International" series Diehard for $100 plus $9 installation from NTB (Same bat as Sears). The installation charge was well worth it, considering that with a low battery, the alarm goes off everytime you touch the car (ouch!). They also used an additional battery source so that the radio didn't need resetting. The battery is sealed (no maintenance) but I'm told it is lead-acid. The battery is also vented properly & is a perfect fit. So far, so good.
