For some reason, the public tends to favor conservative speeds. However, what many do not know is higher speeds have a number of safety advantages over lower speeds. Because you are on the road less time to go the same distance, there is a smaller probability of being on the road when a problem occurs. Because the trip is shorter, the driver is also able to stay more alert.

A much more serious safety issue comes when there are large variations in speeds. When traffic moves at the same speed, the speed at which it moves is not as significant.

Note speed limiters are also used as a cost savings instrument by BMW NA. For instance, the 540iA is limited to 128MPH and comes with H rated tires. The 540i is limited to 155 and thus comes with more expensive Z rated tires. Of course, these limiters can easily be removed by dinan; just don't forget to match the tires to the max speed you wish to drive.
