Rubber door seals (archive)

Could somebody describe to me the "new" inner door seals that have been developed to silence noisey doors on the E39s. I heard some people describe them as having a felt covering. The reason I ask is because the local BMW dealer (San Juan, Puerto Rico) recently replaced the inner door seals of the two front doors of my 98 528i to remedy a noise problem. They did this only after I made a stink about it and complained to the Service Manager. I had tried several times to get the service advisor to change the door seals. I told him that I had heard on this board about the newly-developed rubber door seals.

The door seals they installed look very much like the old ones. Additionally, they only made the noise go away for about a week. The is now just as loud as before.

Supposedly they did this latest work according to service bulletin #51-08-98, which is described as "door edge protection molding wears out".

Thank you in advance for your help.
