The voice of reason, nominated Board VP Lew is right as usual. $3k in fancier wheels/skins is 10% of the way towards an M5 upgrade from my current ride so...I will temper my boyish anxiety, demonstrate decorum and maturity (ughh!) and see what happens. I doubt I will get the M5, but I will definitely wait until my current skins are done (at my rate of wear, likely Christmas 2000!) & decide to act then -maybe.

Having said that, the 18" naysayers -those expounding that the 18" rims will ruin finely engineered specs, etc- confound me. Check table below (valid for SP9000's) & see what I mean:
section width diameter
235/45, 17 9.4 25.5
245/40, 18 10.0 25.7
delta .6" .2"

255/40, 17 10.4 25.0
265/35, 18 10.7 25.3
delta .3" .3"
Bottom line, upgrading to 18" rims will change tire size by less than 1%, which is roughly the same change percentage as u would get if you kept the same rim size & just changed tire brands!
So, being a 'speak with data freak', I will calmly wait until SP2ks are kaput, if no M5 in sight, go with 18's.
thanks for all ur comments, regards
Yr. Obt. Svnt
