An interesting thing I heard last week from my buddy mechanic over at the dealer. He stated that the BMW synthetic is actually a Mobil 1 but rebadged, or licensed or something like that. If that's the case then it's really THE oil to use by anybody's account.
Just my $0.02
: Many will tell you BMW synthetic is the best. Factory specified, and it's free with scheduled maintenance.
: Mainstream thought, which covers owners other than BMW, will tell you MOBIL1. THey were one of the first out on the market and have the most comprehensive test data on its product. Are you familiar with Mobil 1's recent 1 mil. mile test performed on a 325i ?
: Track users will stick with Redline Synthetics. THey claim that Redline uses superior base stock to formulate their synthetics.
: And somewhere out there, a strong following will tell you AMSOIL's synth. oil used in conjunction with its filter last 25k miles without an oil change.
: WHich is the best for BMW engines is a decision that each individual will have to make for themselves. But whatever you decide, stay with synthetic for newer cars. Older cars may not hold gaps between mating parts within a tight enuff tolerance to prevent synthetic from leaking.
: : Few more miles and I;ll have to change the oil to my E39 520 ! I used till now 10 W 60 Castrol ! Its' goo d but..... which is the best suited oil for BMW engines ?
: : thanks for any advice !
