: : :Correction to earlier message:

: : My '97 528i with 65000 lost it's AST. My dealer claims Bowden cable and a new throttle cable need to be replaced for $500.00. Of course, dealer claims repair is not covered under extended warranty.
: : : ? Is this a do-it-yourself repair? Are used parts a smart option? Where are the bowdon cable and throttle motor located?

:
:
: There is a small motorised control unit mounted next to the Crusie control actuator under the hood. There is a bowden cable from it to a secondary throttle unit between the air cleaner and the main throttle body. If the only problem is that cable then $500 is a rip off. Cable might be $30-50 (guessing) and installation should be easy - assuming you feel comfortable opening the control unit.

: Sounds more in the range of a $100 job to me.

: Cheers
: Jim Cash

Jim, thanks!
