www.jcwhitney.com sells car parts for every type of car. I bought the garage door range extender which essentially is an antenna that you wire to your garage door opener and control with a small controler that you can carry on your keyring (similar to a alarm remote). The kit comes with two remotes (my wife uses one in her car which replaces the original dorky looking remote box that came with the opener). I took my little remote and duct taped it to the inside of the driver's door pocket so that it is easily reachable and out of sight. The nice thing about the unit I installed is that it is designed to extend the range of the remote to 150ft, which means the door is open by the time I make it down the driveway (the old remote only had a range of 40 ft). The installation of the antenna unit took about 30 minutes and required a little soldering.
The BMW UGDO may be a little cooler, but I chose the cheap route.
: Who: New Century BMW
: What: Wants to charge me 300+ for installation and parts for UGDO
: When: Got a quote today
: Where: Alhambra, CA
: Why: Because they want to rip me off...
: Doesn't the UGDO only cost like $130? Furthermore isn't installation done in 10 minutes? Please correct me if I'm wrong and tell me what I would need to install it myself? Thanks.
: PS. Dealer says might be necessary to come to my house and program UGDO to my GDO...?!
