Was in Europe last week, with the weekend spent in Munich. I visited a local bmw dealer, with the intent of buying the business CD player, to replace the stock cassette on my 00528. The staff was very friendly, and showed me the various optional accessories for the radio system. One of the guys took me to the service bay, to show me a 528 and the CD player. The one difference between the cd and cassette is a LD (loudness) button in place of the FLAT button.
I was just about to purchase, after getting assurances from three guys that it should work. About $400. I asked the % certainty that it would work, and they called one more fellow. He thought that the dealer may have to program the CD through DIS to enable, as part of anti theft. Since US doesn't sell this option, I'm not certain it can be done. I decided to pass on the deal, wait until summer and bring my car to Canada for the install.
Other observations: BMWs and Benz are everywhere. My colleagues drove 520s and 520T. Constant snow, of course all are using snow tires. They complain about snows keeping the speed down to 180kph. They laugh at our speed limits, but I laughed at my buddy getting his picture taken automatically as he ran a red light.
Went to Munich auto show, took mostly the same pics Jason showed a few days back. Z8 is awesome in person! They had 530d (diesel) model, M5, 528, plus a 735 sport with the scalloped headlights.
Came home to shovel my driveway, but not before driving through the 12 inches of wind-packed powder, up a steep slope, with the blizzaks. Awesome winter performance, needed to turn DSC off.
