Could be a metal GD? I'd check to make sure the RF wire on the receiver is straight and clear line of sight to the transmitter. Some receivers can be mounted away from the GDO if steel or other things block or multipath transmitter signals.
The replacement idea mentioned by Imays is also a good one.

: I just installed the UGDO on my 97 528i, and the range of the transmitter sucks!!! I had a Nissan Maxima SE that had a homelink system in it, and I could open my garage door from about 150 feet away. With the UGDO I can't open the garage unless I pull right up to the door. Any ideas, or known distance limitations?
