Consider that a Porsche has only a small horsepower advantage, and a good torque disadavantage to a 540, but heck, 800 pounds more is an awful lot of weight to haul....I suspect the "race" would have been closer as speeds increased, but in the end, how safe would you feel driving that Civic at 140? How about at 50 and hitting a tree (G_d forbid)? The price of a BMW doesn't only reflect 0-60, and if that's what you want, get a Trans Am; it's the total driving experience of handling, performance, safety, agility, etc. - in a 3800 pound sedan which will provide the same pleasure carrying 5 people and a trunk full of bags....
