Not a trade off! As with some of the other people who have responded, I find the range on the UGDO is at least as good, in my case better, than the hand held transmitter (Sears). And, by having to use the key, nobody can get into your house without the key to the car, even if they do break in - that is engineered into the system as a safety feature - a small engineering investment :-)

: Same experience here; yet another trade off of the wave of the future. The advantages of the UGDO is a great looking finish and no batteries need changed. On the other hand, I found the Genie remote has much better range with a fresh battery and can be used without having a key in the ignition. Both seem like something BMW could overcome with a small engineering investment.
